5 Habits of Efficient Learners

When I was young, I used to think that people who hold degrees or those who have read many books are the men of knowledge.

Over time I realized that my elders who are not proactive readers or degree holders know a lot more than me, and Well! I’m what we call a Book Worm.

It gave me food for thought, and I started wondering,

Why Do They Have More Knowledge?

From the moment we are born till the day we die, we all experience the same things, like meeting people, visiting places, reading, working, and whatnot! What exactly is the source of all the knowledge we possess, and what makes us better at learning things? The first question we face is,

What is Learning?

According to Albert Einstein,

The only source of knowledge is experience

This explains why elders usually know a lot more than young people because they have seen and experienced more than youngsters. Most people think that learning is all about studying and attending universities. Still, learning is about having new experiences and exploring new worlds (where the world is not just physical places but places your mind wanders off to), meeting people, and getting to know them. The knowledge we gain this way would be far richer than what we get through books.

How to Become An Efficient Learner?

Learning is a common practice, but efficiency is learning more from experience or, more precisely,

Read Beyond The Lines

Start with WHY?

It is easy to hear someone and understand their perspective through their speech, but that doesn’t make you efficient.. what makes you efficient is reading their expressions and putting yourself in their position positively helping you get a better picture of what they’re thinking and helps you understand stuff they haven’t even mentioned.

It’s all about pushing boundaries!

Recent scientific discoveries declared that,

An average person uses about 10% of their brain in a lifetime

Let see how to use it more efficiently and get better at anything!

Stay Focused

Working at anything from household chores to extensive research, small interruptions slow down the work pace and affect the whole project. To stay more focused and avoid disruptions, remember,

  1. Self-imposed deadline.

2. Make a schedule and stick to it.

3. Set self-imposed working hours and space.

These small things often keep your mind at peace, and jobs don’t pile up.

In short, discipline is the key!

Music & Multi-tasking

Do you enjoy music while working?

Well!! GOOD NEWS!

Studies have concluded that listening to background music improves focus on the task at hand. But when we talk about talking or chatting with a friend and studying or switching between multiple tasks at a time.

Your overall performance is compromised and even sabotaged in some cases. To be efficient, Focus on the task at hand and put everything else on hold.

Take Breaks

Most people are used to working long hours at work. Even students often study day in and day out during exams or when a deadline is approaching.

You must’ve done it at least once in your life, but trust me!

It affects your health as well as efficiency. Taking a small 10 to 15 minutes break will help you freshen up. It improves your mood, and you can continue with a fresh mind and body in no time ;)

Make Reading a Habit

Not all intelligent people are readers. Reading is a useful habit, and readers hold many advantages over non-readers!

Readers are well-informed and up-to-date in multiple areas. If you read the newspaper daily, then your information about current affairs is always up to date. The vocabulary of readers is better than ordinary people, which gives them an edge.

So! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Start today and become efficient at anything you want!

KEEP SMILING!
